Michael Irvine
Michael Irvine is lucky to be able to do what he loves and do it well. He received his first art scholarship in Grade 2 and from this early interest it was natural for Michael to gravitate toward commercial art. He graduated from the Graphic Design program at Grant MacEwan College in Edmonton, Alberta, but it was obvious from the start that illustration was the focus of his talent.
Michael works primarily with water colour. With a unique approach to this traditionally ‘loose’ medium, Michael’s ardent eye for detail produces clean, sharp images that are alive with colour and narration. This approach to water colour, together with his background in illustration and his love of classic cars, have proved instrumental in developing Michael’s second passion, automotive art.
At age 16, Michael purchased his first car, a bright blue 1970 Ford Mustang coupe. In 1994, having owned a total of five Mustangs, it seemed natural that he focus on the car of his youth for his first limited edition print. He offered Evolution of a Legend, in commemoration of the Mustang’s 30th anniversary, and he has since released several more.
Released in November of 2003, his most recent offering, New to the Chase, is a stunningly detailed tribute to what many consider to be the definitive car chase movie. Michael’s work is very well received internationally, with many people waiting anxiously for his next release (scheduled for mid 2004). Michael’s passion for the car endures – he currently spends his leisure time restoring and driving his lime gold 1967 GTA convertible. Recently, he acquired another project, a pewter 1971 Mach 1 – and is embarking on a full restoration.
Michael lives in Southern Ontario with his wife and two children. He enjoys a successful independent business, allowing him the freedom to spend lots of time with his family and to pursue his automotive fine art.
